Daddy I Love You Card

I'll be there for you
When the rain starts to fall...

Hello! I'm here today with another card for my Color me Happy series for the Happy Doodle blog!

Saturday will be Father's Day here in Italy and I usually make a card for my husband on behalf of my daughter: she asked for a blue/orange color combo so I pick up the Quack Me Up stamp set for creating a rainy scene with Copic markers. Wanna know more? Here we go!

On a piece of Heffy Doodle Alcohol Marker Friendly cardstock I stamped the images from the Quack Me Up stamp set: I started with the umbrella and the little duck, I masked them and I stamped the puddle and then the daddy duck. Since I was going to create a background with the Copics, I left the masks on the images and I also created one for the big duck (I didn't cover the puddle as it wasn't in the sky part of the card).

I was now ready to color and I used a range of blue Copic markers to create the rainy sky: this was my first attempt and I really need to improve my technique, however it's all about making strokes with different markers until you cover all the area.

COPIC LIST
SKY and PUDDLE: B0000, B00, B02, B05, B18, BG13, BG18, Y000
UMBRELLA: YR00, YR04, YR07 - RV000, RV21, R23, RV25
DUCKS: E50, YR00, YR04, YR07
GROUND: W0, W1, W3

I suggest you to leave the center of the card lighter as it will help your images to stand out better; you can also use a light yellow marker to highlight the area. When I was happy with the result, I removed the masks and I colored the rest of the images. Now the most feared part: drawing the rain with a white gel pen... I swear, this is where the magic really happens! I also added several splatters here and there for a more interesting look.

I made the faux Polaroid by using the third largest rectangle from the Imperial Stitched Rectangles dies on a piece of white cardstock and cutting a square with a 7,5 cm square die. I use the same die over the colored image and I inserted the colored panel into the frame. The rectangle was too long and I trimmed it on the bottom: this part ended up missing the stitches but I liked the result anyway.

For the sentiment, I made the "daddy" by mixing letters from the Happy Birthday Shadow Heffy Cuts (used three times on orange cardstock) and glued them together on the card; I then stamped the I Love You sentiment from the Absotoothly Awesome stamp set with Versafine black ink. I also stamped the hearts from the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set and colored them with orange and blue Copic markers, then I fussy cut them and added them to the card using little foam squares.
I made a card base and I ink blended the front with Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide. For giving the whole card more depth, I used an old black mini ink pad on the edges of both the Polaroid and the card base before gluing all together.

I'm using this card for entering the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge (my favorite things for cards are Copic Markers!) and the Simon Says Stamp Instagram Challenge.

I hope you like my card and see you soon!
Happy crafting.
