The Wild Roar birthday card
ROAR!!! This bunch of cute critters wants to say Happy Birthday..
I've seen a lot of "inner die cut" cards lately and I thought it would be fun making one with a crowd stamp and a big words die: Mama Elephant's Wild Roar and Big Happy Birthday die were the perfect choice!
I wanted to colored this bunch of critters with Zig markers, but I'm not very good on watercoloring yet so I choose to do embossing resist watercoloring. I used Wow Metallic Copper embossing powder which is sooo cool, it looks brown but when the light strikes it you get that beautiful metallic sparkle.
I don't need to say that making the whole scene was really difficult and took me lots of time on masking and embossing, masking and embossing, masking and embossing again and again...
Coloring was really time consuming too, but also very funny; I tried to use different colors or tones on the same kind of animals and I probably came up with some new breed LOL I tried to take note of the colors I used, but when I started the second row I lost track. I'm aware that my coloring is not the best, I still need to improve a lot! I I'm really mad at myself for the poor impala: it is my favorite of the whole crowd and I was only able to include one, yet I took the wrong marker and it ended up having the strangest color on Earth. There are many other mistakes here and there but I honestly put so much time and effort on this panel that I couldn't bare the idea of making another one.
Here's a picture of the panel before I used the Big Happy Birthday die.

Once I was done with the animals, it came the hardest part: finding the courage to cut out a piece of paper I spend so many hours on!!! I took a deep breath and run the panel through my Big Shot: luckily nothing went wrong and I had a crisp and clean cut. At this point I attached the outer part on my card base, along with a previously cut white Happy Birthday piece for using it as a guide for the inner parts of the letters (this way they are at the same level as the main part of my card).
I then die cut a Happy B-Day out of fun foam, glued it over the white piece and finally attached the "animal" Happy Birthday on top. My first intention was to add an embossed border to the script, but I tried and it was really too hard and complicated: I just used a brown colored pencil on the borders to give it more dimension. The words really pop up in person but it's very hard to get it on camera and that's really frustrating!!
